Ask a newcomer where Round Lake Beach spends its summer weekends and the answer usually points to the Chain O'Lakes. Ask someone who has lived here through a few Augusts and the answer is a street address: 2007 Civic Center Way. The lawn behind the Cultural & Civic Center is doing more work in a given weekend than any single venue in the village, and it will keep doing that work until the shuttered movie theater a mile east finishes its rebuild.
That is the story of late-summer 2026 here. One address stacks the calendar. Another address, on Rollins Road, is being reassembled to share the load.
The Address Doing Most Of The Work
The Cultural & Civic Center sits on Village grounds overlooking Hook Lake, and its calendar this summer is not a scattered set of one-offs. It is a schedule engineered to layer.

Summertime LIVE brings the Mercadito Farmers Market and the Summer Concert Series together on the same grounds, running every other Thursday from May 28, 2026 through August 6, 2026. Family Fun Fridays run a longer arc, from June 5 through October 30, and they pick up the Friday slot the Thursday market leaves open.
The July anchor is the free two-day BeachFest. Festivities kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 3, with live entertainment, bands, food trucks, and beverage vendors, followed by the annual fireworks show presented by the Round Lake Area Park District on Saturday, July 4th. The site itself is the pitch: the Civic Center at 2007 Civic Center Way overlooks Hook Lake, and the venue's combination of open lawns, water views, and outdoor event infrastructure gives the two-day celebration a natural amphitheater quality.
Then the season closes on corn. The Round Lake Beach festival features live music, food and drink, local vendors, a carnival, a musical lights drone show, and a myriad of corn. The Elote Fest Pageant returns Friday, August 28 at 6 p.m., and the festival occupies the same civic-center footprint the rest of the summer already knows.
Five months. One address. Same parking, same sightlines, same short walk from the lake path.
Why Thursdays Don't Look Like Fridays Here
Thursday and Friday programming are not interchangeable, and residents who alternate between them without noticing the pattern miss what the calendar was designed to do.
Thursday is a shopping night with a soundtrack. The Mercadito is a market first, so families come for produce and specialty vendors, then stay for the set. A recent Thursday listed San Judas Food Truck, Kikis Cotton Candy, Zenia Coffee Bar, and Harbor Brewing at the 4 p.m. Mercadito, with a 7 p.m. ABBA tribute set from Dancing Queen. Show up at 4:30 with a tote bag and you have the market to yourself. Show up at 7 and you are there for the concert.
Friday is not that. Family Fun Fridays is programmed around kids, which shifts the rhythm earlier and softer. Residents who try to treat it like a Thursday night out find the wrong crowd.
There is also a mid-week civic-band tradition tucked into July. The Round Lake Area Community Concert Band plays a free 7:30 p.m. concert at the Cultural & Civic Center on Wednesday, July 1, with guest conductor Mark Eichner. It sits inside the same week as BeachFest and functions as an unofficial opener.
The Round Lake Heights Wrinkle
The Round Lake calendar is not entirely centralized. The neighboring village runs its own festival on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 5 to 10 p.m. That date sits six days before Elote Fest opens, which means the last two Saturdays of August are effectively back-to-back street parties on either side of the village line. Residents who want a quiet weekend in late August should mark the calendar accordingly.
What Rollins Road Is About To Add
The village has been living with a large dark box on Rollins Road for a while now, and that is finally changing.
A vacant Rollins Road movie theater will be transformed into a new family entertainment center featuring movie screens, a restaurant, axe throwing, and an indoor Go-Kart track. The 72,000 square-foot facility at 550 E. Rollins Road will also feature games, a bar area, and space for meetings and parties. The indoor Go-Kart track will be multi-level and use electric vehicles.
Thakkar Developers of Irving, Texas, is expected to submit final plans in summer 2025, with an anticipated grand opening in 2026. Village leadership has framed the project as a continuation of the Mayor and Board's vision of enhancing the retail and entertainment corridor, alongside new restaurants currently in development.
Two things are worth pulling out of that quote for anyone weighing what the neighborhood will feel like a year from now. First, this is not a movie theater rebuild. The seven screens are one component of a much larger box that includes food, drink, and two separate activity anchors. Second, the "new restaurants currently in development" line is a village-official acknowledgment that Rollins Crossing is being reworked as a corridor, not a single lot.
For residents, this matters because it finally gives the village a rainy-Saturday answer and a January answer. The civic-center calendar is an outdoor calendar. When the weather turns, the current default is Gurnee or Mundelein. That default is about to move a mile inside the village line.
Where To Eat Around These Nights
The Civic Center lawn does not have a permanent restaurant row, so residents route in and out through a small set of dependable options. Two sit within walking or short-drive distance of the grounds.
- Tequila's Mexican Restaurant, Route 83. The most reliable casual dining option near the civic center, with a fajita platter and a house-made guacamole that reflect a kitchen operating with more care than the area's Mexican restaurant population might lead visitors to expect.
- The Wheelhouse, Washington Street. A solid neighborhood bar and grill for a pre-fireworks dinner, with a rotating menu of American classics and a covered patio suited to warm July evenings.
- Birrieria Jalisco 2, 304 N. Cedar Lake Rd., open through 10 p.m. weekdays and later on Friday and Saturday.
- Eggspress Café, 651 W. Railroad Ave., an American-style diner open Tuesday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., worth knowing for the morning after a late Elote Fest.
- Bonus Round Pizza, 435 N. Wilson Rd., open until midnight most nights and 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Four Coynes, 302 W. Nippersink Rd., the neighborhood sports-bar option.
For the daytime side of a BeachFest weekend, two family stops sit within a short drive. The Round Lake Area Park District's Camp Duncan property on Grass Lake Road runs a lakefront day camp program and seasonal drop-in activities. Volo Auto Museum on US-12, about five miles south, displays thousands of classic, rare, and pop-culture vehicles across a sprawling indoor museum. Kayak families can put in through the Fox River chain access from Wilmot Road south of Antioch.
How To Actually Build A Late-August Weekend
A workable plan for Elote Fest weekend, for a household that lives here and does not want to drive twice:
- Friday afternoon at the Mercadito if it falls on a market Thursday earlier that week, otherwise skip.
- Friday 6 p.m. pageant, then hold the spot for the evening headliner.
- Saturday late-afternoon return with kids for the carnival opening, dinner off-site at Tequila's or The Wheelhouse, back for the drone show.
- Sunday morning at Eggspress, Sunday afternoon back for the closing set.
